{"id":4998,"date":"2023-03-05T05:08:33","date_gmt":"2023-03-05T05:08:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/toovio.com\/turn-data-into-revenue\/?p=4998"},"modified":"2023-07-23T12:54:16","modified_gmt":"2023-07-23T12:54:16","slug":"the-diversity-paradigm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/toovio.com\/turn-data-into-revenue\/the-diversity-paradigm\/","title":{"rendered":"The Diversity Paradigm"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>What is it<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We at Toovio define the diversity paradigm as the equilibrium of the diversity of features associated with customer behavior and digital stimulus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Customer behavior refers to any transactional data a customer generates as they interact with an organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Digital stimulus is any content across digital channels that the organization distributes intentionally or simply makes available to its customers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Features are data attribution that describes the characteristics of the transaction. Examples of features could be; time, daypart, color, weight, size, location, price, source, quantity, name, category, department, channel, tone, etc. These features are best curated by human domain expertise first and by machine intelligence second.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Where it comes from<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The diversity paradigm arose from decades of observations resulting from the failures and successes of implementing 1:1 real-time interaction management technology. Specifically, these technology implementations try to drive increased response rates through more relevant digital stimuli. In several cases, we found that simply increasing the diversity of the stimulus with random arbitration (no predictive modeling) would significantly increase response rates. In fact, we have observed that the diversity paradigm indeed does have a greater impact on response rates than say the predictive power (measured by lift and or gains) in the underlying modeling scores in the basic \u201ctop offer\u201d prioritization scheme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Why it is important<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rationally, we began to ask ourselves simple questions against these observations\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How many kinds of customer behavior are there?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How many kinds of digital stimuli are there?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Historically, we certainly did not know how many different kinds of customer behaviors there were, but our best guess would be somewhere between say 75 \u2013 150. Certainly, a variety of arguments could be made for more or less diversity but what we do know as fact is the number of current digital stimuli. The digital stimulus diversity can be counted and for most organizations, this number is quite small in comparison to anyone\u2019s guess of the number of digital stimuli.
